Behind the impression.
Carved during a period of intense study into the rhythms of the Eastern Cape coastline, this print distills tide, memory, and ancestry into a single incised gesture. The composition rewards long looking: what first reads as abstract pattern resolves, on a second pass, into figures wading against the pull of the sea.
Voyiya returned to this plate three times over two years, each time deepening the black fields until the white line work carried the full weight of the image.
